Lean Not Fat

Can A Diet Exercise Program Help You Lose Weight?

Exercise is a vital part of a losing weight and feeling better. An increased activity level helps you burn off carbohydrates and can lead to fat loss. Some think that just by cutting carbohydrates drastically, you don't need to exercise. Alas, that is not so.

Cutting carbohydrates too low leads to all sorts of health problems. Often weight loss from carbohydrate reduction is not fat, it's lean muscle mass. Changing eating habits by itself isn't enough to produce weight loss and good health. You need a diet exercise program.

But it's hard to get started exercising and stay motivated. It's so easy to find other things to do and suddenly there's no time for exercise. What's odd is that the people who stick with exercise are the ones most enthusiastic about the activity. And people who exercise feel better and look younger. Then if you feel better, you can exercise more and so forth.

So what's a good way to start. Depends. What do you do now and do you have limitations? Start where you are and do what you can.

For many folks, a good brisk walk is the place to start. So, let's begin. Put on some comfortable shoes and walk out the door! Increase your walk time slowly. Build to 20 minute walks two or three times a day or one longer walk a day. If you're overly tired when you finish, maybe you overdid it. Rest if you need to.

For an aerobic workout, aim to get your heart rate up to 60 percent of your maximum rate. An estimate of your maximum heart rate is 220 minus your age.

Don't push too hard, since the last thing you want is an injury. An injury will set you back and keep you inactive. If you're already sick or injured, be very careful as you start exercising.

Pick exercise that you like to do, otherwise it's too tempting to quit. Maybe you've read that you should do something. So what. Pick what you like to do. Even daily activities can be good exercise. Examples are washing windows, waxing the car, mowing the yard. Pick up your exercise level wherever you can to burn more calories and start to drop the weight. Eat enough though to fuel you increased level.

One of the best ways to burn fat and build muscle is resistance training or weight lifting. This may be just what you need after yo get in shape. Or it may be a sure road to injury. You should get some expert guidance before you start a weight lifting program.

OK, ready?

Turn off the computer and let's head out the door!!!
